The heat is on (or off) with portable heat pumps
Imagine yourself having a blast touring the countryside with your new recreational vehicle.
You are having a vacation across the different terrain and weather conditions which means frequent adjustments in
temperature levels inside your mobile home. But according to studies, frequent drastic changes of temperature
inside a vehicle or a contained space can affect one’s alertness in doing tasks, particularly driving on the
road.
What do you do to keep the temperature inside your mobile home balanced? What do you do if the place you
are spending the night on is too cold? What do you do if you have to eat lunch on the road under the scorching heat
of the sun? Would you sacrifice experiencing mobile tourism just because of the whims of temperature changes?
Of course not.
The road trip is one of the greatest and most fun vacations possible. You can still have a grand holiday with a
portable heat pump packed in your mobile home. A portable heat pump is your means to balance the temperature inside
your vehicle, or any other contained space for that matter. A portable heat pump will adequately supply you with
all the heating and cooling requirements you will need while on the road.
Heat pumps, whether the big or the portable ones, are fundamentally a device with a duct that allows someone to
switch it from functioning as an air conditioner to a heater and vice versa. Heat pumps absorb heat from the
surroundings. Or they can be used using refrigerants through a forward or reverse chain of evaporation and
condensation. Either way heat pumps can be very cost effective in their consumption of energy because, for one
thing, they can act as two types of appliances, namely air conditioners and heaters.
The most common type of heat pump that we see everyday is a household appliance, refrigerator. It extracts heat
from inside it and releases the absorbed heat through the grills at the back. Several types of room air
conditioners are more examples of heat pumps. And these types of heat pumps have become more portable in recent
years; to the point where they have become standard features inside cars, trucks and ice boxes.
While heat pumps are quite common inside industries and homes, today these pumps can be seen carried by people
in their travels. As the name of the game in the appliance industry today is being portable, more and more types of
heat pumps are made to cater to a mobile lifestyle. The portable heat pump device has been around for more than
half a century already.
Fire fighting teams are now using thick protective clothing with portable heat pumps inside. To counteract the
effects of extreme temperatures inside burning edifices and forests, portable heat pumps constantly balance the
temperature inside the clothing so the fire fighters wearing them can avoid heat stroke. The same with deep sea
divers, who now have portable heat pumps inside their diving suits to avoid nausea while exploring the ocean
floor.
Indeed, as more and more homes and businesses are realizing the many applications where portable heat pumps can
be used, many types of professions are also embracing them too. Although heat pump technology has been around a
long time, it never fails to amaze us how much smaller and more portable they are becoming nowadays.
